WE Solicitors have successfully represented Mr C against his former employers who exposed him to excessive noise throughout his employment with them between 1985 and 1999. The company was involved in the mining industry in Hucknall, Nottingham and made mining equipment including hydraulic roof supports.

Noise induced hearing loss has always been associated with people who have worked in heavy industry such as shipbuilding, the metal and steel industry and manufacturing. Over the last 10 years there has been a resurgence in the number of claims against employers for exposing their employees or former employees to harmful levels of noise whilst at work. It is widely accepted that after 1961, in most industries, employers should have taken steps to protect their workforce from exposure to noise by providing hearing protection.

Mr L was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the engineering industry for GEC Diesels Ltd, which was also known as Dorman Diesels and English Electrical Diesels Ltd. He was employed as a Toolmaker and exposed to the noise of lathes, milling machines, cutting machines, grinders, shaping machines and multi spindle drills, for the duration of his shifts.
