The statistics for men and women suffering some form of hearing loss in the UK should give real cause for concern. It is too readily assumed that the advance of research, awareness, technology and legislation had solved most of the circumstances that give rise to widespread noise induced hearing loss.
| Mr Butler was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the weaving industry for a period of around 7 and a half years, during the years 1968 to 1975. Mr Butler worked for Smith & Nephew Textiles Ltd, of Brierfield Mills, Brierfield, Lancashire. He was employed as a tape bander and a spinning doffing mechanic, throughout this time and exposed to the noise of the spinning machines, in the spinning department. Mr Butler advises that it was so noisy, he would have to shout right into his colleague’s ear, if he wanted to communicate in the spinning department.

Settlement of £4,500.00 for Noise Induced Hearing LossOur client was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the weaving industry from 1970 to 1978 and again from 1981 to 1991. Our client’s claim was against Smith & Nephew Plc, of Brierfield Mills, Brierfield, Lancashire. During the course of his employment, he was variously employed as a spinner, a doffer and latterly, a foreman.
