Mr F was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the weaving industry at Carrington & Dewhurst Ltd at Douglas Mill, Standish, Wigan. Mr F was employed as a cuts carrier and beam gaiter and exposed to the noise of weaving looms. He was employed from 1974 to 1979, never having been provided with hearing protection.
Additionally, Mr F was also employed as a welder for Automotive Products Plc of Wigan, which was later taken over by Bosal UK Ltd, which was situated in Bamber Bridge, Preston. Mr F was then exposed to the noise of presses, guillotines and welding sets. He was employed there from 1982 to 1998, but only provided with hearing protection in around the mid 1990’s, by which time, the damage had been done.
Mr F now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and mild noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr F’s claim.
WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £3,789.40 for Mr F, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mr F and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
