Noise Induced Hearing Loss Sufferer wins £2,750.

Mr H was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the light bulb manufacturing industry for a period of around 20 years. Mr H worked for Osram (GEC) Ltd, of Refuge Street, Shaw, Oldham. He was employed as an electrician and maintenance electrician throughout and based variously in Osram’s Cape Mill and Duke Mill. Mr H was exposed to the noise of various assembly machinery, including pinch, mount, celex, capping, finishing and ageing machinery. In addition, he would also be exposed to the noise of smashing glass and exploding bulbs.

During Mr H’s employment, he was never provided with hearing protection and nor was he ever made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to. He recalls that it was an issue that was simply never mentioned.

Mr H began to notice a deterioration in his hearing over the last couple of years. He was aware that he was mishearing his family more often, in conversation, and having to ask them to repeat themselves more frequently. Mr H found this frustrating and decided to pursue the matter further.

Mr H has been diagnosed as suffering from mild noise induced hearing loss, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged an in-depth medical assessment of Mr H’s hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr H’s claim.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £2,750.00 for Mr H, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mr H and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
