Mrs McK of Oldham Awarded £8,500 from her Ex Employer, Osram.

Mrs McK wins settlement of £8,500.00 through WE Solicitors, for her noise induced hearing loss claim.

Mrs McK was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the light bulb manufacturing industry, for a period of over 16 years in total. Mrs McK worked for Osram (GEC) Ltd, of Refuge Street, Shaw, Oldham. She was employed as filament layer and assembler during her period of employment and was exposed to the noise of assembly line machinery. Mrs McK recalled that her working environment was so noisy, that she would have to shout to communicate with someone several feet away.

Mrs McK left the company finally in 1995, having never been provided with hearing protection and nor made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise pose. Mrs McK now suffers from mild to moderate noise induced hearing loss and moderate noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of her hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mrs McK’s claim.

As there was more than one insurer on cover for the defendant company, during Mrs McK’s employment, there was some co-ordination necessary between the various insurers, which had to take place before the case could be settled.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £8,500.00 for Mrs McK, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mrs McK and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
