Mr R Wins £3,000.

Mr R wins  £3,000 payout after working as an office boy for a year and then as a Communication Controller from 1963 to 1974 at Richard Thomas & Baldwins Limited/ Appleby Frodingham Steel Co at their Bedbourne Works in Scunthorpe.

As an office boy he was sent to fetch messages all over the site for the office staff up to a dozen times a day.  As Communications Controller he worked out in the Plant for 8 hours every day and was responsible for ensuring that the communications flowed throughout the Plant.

He was exposed to noise from all of the machinery, including tertiary crushers, sinter plants and blast furnaces.  He also spent a period working as shift foreman supervising the ironstone crushers/dryers and processors, which were used to make sinter for the blast furnaces.  The sinter plant was continuously noisy with the machinery and conveyor belts moving the ironstone to the crushers where it would be crushed into smaller pieces.
