Former Worker at Perseverance Mill Awarded £4,000 for Noise Induced Hearing Loss

Mr K was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working at Perseverance Mill from 1976 to 2005.  He was responsible for the running of a set of looms, a set consisted of 36 looms.  At the height of his employment there were between 6 and 7 sets of looms in the weaving shed, a total of between 216 and 252 looms.

Mr K said ‘it was impossible to hold any conversation in the weaving shed.  Communication was done by lip reading.’

I gradually found myself missing bits of conversation in social settings and it became embarrassing to keep asking people to repeat themselves and I started to lip read in social situations.’

Mr K’s case took some time to settle and legal proceedings were issued.  However both WE Solicitors and Mr K were happy with the settlement, which was reached without the need to attend a court hearing.
