Mr Webb was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the weaving industry for a period of over 5 years. Mr Webb worked for Smith & Nephew Medical Fabrics Ltd of Brierfield, Nelson, Lancashire from 1975 to 1976. He was employed as a beam gaiter in weaving shed no. 3 throughout and exposed to the noise of weaving looms.

Mr Webb also worked for G Ratcliffe & Sons (Felts) Ltd of Shackleton Street, Burnley, Lancashire during 1985/86, 1988/89 and then again from 1995 to 1998. He was employed on each occasion as a loom man and was exposed to the noise of the loom machinery, used to manufacture carpets.

During Mr Webb’s employment, he was never provided with hearing protection and nor was he ever made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to. Mr Webb now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr Webb’s claim.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £3,250.00 for Mr Webb, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mr Webb and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
