Former Prestige Group Worker of Colne wins £5,000 compensation

Noise induced hearing loss sufferer, Mrs P, wins settlement of £5,000.00 through WE Solicitors.

Mrs P was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the metal working industry for a period of over 20 years. Mrs P worked for Prestige Group Ltd of Colne Road, Burnley, Lancashire, during this time. She was employed as a press operator throughout and exposed to the noise of the constant banging of around 60 presses, in the Press Shop, for the duration of her shifts. The presses were used to make metal cutlery and kitchen equipment.

In addition, Mrs P would also undertake wet grinding and welding work, which was noisy in itself and undertaken close by to the noisy press machinery. Mrs P advises that during her shift, if she wanted to communicate with someone a few feet away, she would either have to gesture to them or wait until break time.

During Mrs P’s employment, she was not provided with hearing protection until sometime between the mid 1980’s and when she left in 1990. Mrs P now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and a moderate degree of noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of her hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mrs P’s claim.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £5,000.00 for Mrs P, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mrs P and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
