Mr W was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the paper making industry for a period of over 30 years. Mr W worked for Robert Fletcher & Sons Limited at their sire based in Stoneclough. The company was often referred to by employees as “Fletcher’s Mill”.

He was employed in various job roles throughout his lengthy service with Robert Fletcher & Sons Limited and exposed to the noise of pulpers, beaters, refining machines, paper machines, pumps and motors throughout his shift.

Mr W described the noise of the machines as “like a jet engine…we would lip read most of the time”.

Mr W was not provided with any hearing protection until the mid 1990’s.  He was never made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to. Mr W now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and mild noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr W’s claim.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £5000 for Mr W, avoiding the need to go to trial. Both Mr W and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
