Mrs. M of Dukinfield was a former Book Sewer for Newton Mill Limited, where she worked for 14 years. She is now 64 years old and suffers with hearing loss, which was caused by exposure to excessive noise at work.
The mill, in which Mrs. M worked, failed to provide her with any hearing protection and failed to warn her of the dangers of exposure to excessive noise levels.
Mrs. M was exposed to the noise of Industrial Sewing Machines, Nipping Machines, Mechanical Guillotines and the Index Machines. She worked in the Book Sewing Area.
It was not until 2008 that Mrs. M came to realise the problems with her hearing was a cause of having worked in a noisy environment. Mrs. M said, “Although I was not personally aware of any real problems with my hearing, I was told by my family members that I have the television volume on too loud and they made comments that I’m deaf. I often find it difficult to concentrate on multiple conversations. I find it very embarrassing to ask people to repeat themselves.”
WE Solicitors were able to settle Mrs. M’s claim against Newton Mill Limited for over £1500.00. Mrs M was happy with the successful outcome of her claim.
