Mr. J of Newcastle was a former Core Maker for Sweetmore Engineering Holdings Limited, where he worked for 50 years. He was 69 years old when he started his claim and sadly passed away a year into the investigations, at which time he was suffering with hearing loss, which was caused by exposure to excessive noise at work.
The late Mr. J’s wife obtained WE Solicitors help in obtaining a Grant of Probate, following which she was able to continue with her late husbands claim on behalf of his estate.
Mr. J worked in the foundry, which failed to provide him with any hearing protection until 1987 and failed to warn him of the dangers of exposure to excessive noise levels.
Mr. J was exposed to the noise of Furnaces, Cutters, Grinding Machines and Kilns. There was added noise from the huge Ceiling Fans ad the Overhead Cranes.
It was not until January 2010 that Mr. J came to realise the problems with his hearing was a cause of having worked in noisy environments. Mr. J said, “I suffer with a constant buzzing noise in both my ears. I struggle to hear on the telephone and I find it hard to keep up in a conversation, as I often miss most of what is being said and ask everyone to repeat themselves. My wife and son are always complaining that I have the television volume too high and that I shout when I speak.”
WE Solicitors were able to settle Mr. J’s claim against Sweetmore Engineering Holdings Limited within 18 months, for £1000.00. Mrs J was happy with the successful outcome of her late husband’s claim.
