The hazards of excessive noise and risks of hearing loss are not confined to the world of work. We seem to be living in an increasingly noisy world in whatever environment we find ourselves, including leisure spaces.

Exposure to excessive noise levels and the risks of falling victim to noise induced hearing loss are still as hazardous today in an outside environment as it is working within the enclosed space of an engineering works, assembly plant or similar factory floor. Especially if you are a driver of a HGV truck, large plant, earth excavator, etc.

Sudden hearing loss without any apparent cause, contrasting against a noise induced hearing loss as a result of exposure to excessive workplace noise, has been the subject of research into causes and finding better treatments with fewer side effects.To date, a standard treatment is to use oral steroids, but recent studies suggest that administering by injection can produce equally effective results.
