Ms. N of Dukinfield worked for Courtaulds Northern Textiles Limited for nearly 11 years. She worked at Ray Mill in Stalybridge, where she was exposed to excessive noise, whilst employed as a Beamer and a Spooler.

The work she carried out was known as process work. She was the last person to deal with the cotton. The cotton was placed on spool and cheese, which was the machinery she used. Ms. N was dealing with 400 ends of cotton at any one time.

Ms. N said, “The mill was a horrendously noisy place to work. It was not possible to even shout. I had to learn to lip read as a form of communication. ”

As a Beamer and a Spooler, hearing protection was never made available to Ms. N and she was never warned about the dangers of exposure to excessive noise levels.

Ms. N struggles to hear when she is with a group of people and when there is any background noise, which prompted investigation with her GP and then contact with the Solicitors.

After obtaining supportive medical evidence from an ENT Consultant, WE Solicitors successfully secured a sum of nearly £5000 from the Defendants, in respect of Ms. N’s work related hearing loss.
