Mrs Currie wins £6000 payout after working as an assembly and production line worker at GEC Hitachi Ltd, of Aberdare. Mrs Currie was employed there from 1973 to 1981 and was employed in the main factory. She was exposed to the noise of wire coiling machinery in particular, plus the noise from the other 50 or so machines in the factory, all involved in the manufacture of television components. Mrs Currie advises that the noise was so loud, she would have to shout to communicate with a colleague, around 3 or 4 feet away.

This case was quite difficult as the actual company entity, which employed Mrs Currie is now dissolved and it proved somewhat difficult tracing the insurers of the company, at the time of Mrs Currie’s employment. WE Solicitors eventually managed to establish the insurance history of the company and were then able to proceed with the claim.

WE Solicitors arranged a medical report for Mrs Currie, which supported her claim for noise induced hearing loss and an element of noise related tinnitus. This evidence was put to the defendants and an out of court settlement was subsequently agreed.
