Our client was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the defence, security and aerospace industry for a period of over 16 years for BAE Systems PLC, which was also known as British Aerospace. The site was based on Greengate in Chadderton, Greater Manchester.
He was employed as an apprentice / qualified machine tool fitter throughout and exposed to the noise of long bed milling machines (or high speed routers), lathes, NC milling machines, grinders, compressors, drop hammers, metal cutting machinery and so on.
During his employment, he is not sure when hearing protection was made available, as it was not an issue and he was not provided with any noise awareness training. He advises he was not, to his knowledge, made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to.
Our client now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and moderate noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support the claim.
Court proceedings were commenced, in order to progress the claim, however, WE Solicitors were able to obtain a settlement of £2,812.85 avoiding the need for attend a trial. Our client said ‘I cannot thank you enough for my settlement. It is all due to your hard work’.
