Mrs B was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working as a Quality Control Inspector at Lamp Caps Limited for a period of 24 years.
The noise from the various machines used to make the caps was horrendous and Mrs B had to shout above the noise to be heard or use hand signals.
Hearing protection was introduced well into Mrs B’s employment in around 1984 but stock of the ear plugs often ran out and it could take a couple of days for more to be supplied.
Mrs B noticed her hearing had been gradually deteriorating but assumed the symptoms were due to age and wax as she had attended her GP and been sent to see a nurse to have her ears syringed. At no time until seeing an advertisement by WE Solicitors in her local newspaper did Mrs B think her hearing problems may be due to working in a noisy environment.
Mrs B now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of her hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mrs B’s claim.
WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an undisclosed sum of compensation in an out of court settlement for Mrs B who said ‘thank you for your support and the excellent outcome. I cannot praise your excellent work enough.’
