Mr. B of Oldham was a former Doffer for Courtaulds, Maple Mill in Oldham, where he worked for 7 years. He is now 59 years old and suffers with hearing loss, which was caused by exposure to excessive noise at work.

 Maple Mill, where Mr. B worked, failed to provide him with any hearing protection and failed to warn him of the dangers of exposure to excessive noise levels.

Mr. B was exposed to the noise of Spinning Machines and Winding Frames. He worked in the Ring Room and the Winding Department.

It was not until 2010 that Mr. B came to realise the problems with his hearing was a cause of having worked in a noisy environment. Mr. B said, “My hearing has gradually been deterioration. My wife complains that she has to repeat herself to me and that I have the television volume on too loud. I struggle to hear when there is background noise and I have difficulty hearing the doorbell ring. .”
