WE Solicitors managed to obtain compensation for Mrs Dorothy W from Failsworth. Mrs W was employed by Osram in Shaw from 1967 to 1991 as a Fluorescent Lamp Examiner.

Whilst working at Osram Mrs W was subjected to excessive noise from various machinery including feeding machines, filament/coating machines, stamping machines and conveyor belts. Mrs W was never provided with any hearing protection by her employers.

Medical evidence was obtained from an Ear, Nose & Throat Consultant who confirmed that Mrs W was suffering with severe deafness caused partly by exposure to loud noise in the workplace.

This case was particularly difficult due to the fact that Mrs W’s hearing loss was so severe. Because her loss was so great, the representatives for Osram attempted to argue that Mrs W should have been aware of her hearing loss many years ago and should have realised that her noise exposure at Osram had contributed to her hearing loss. The Defendant therefore argued that Mrs W was out of time to bring a claim. WE Solicitors continued to fight Mrs W’s case, however, even to the point of issuing court proceedings, and were eventually able to get some compensation for Mrs W.
