Mr N wins £5,000 payout after working as an apprentice fitter, fitter, supervisor, operations engineer and maintenance mechanic from 1969/1970 to 2009 at British Steel site in Brigg Road, Scunthorpe caused him to lose some of his hearing. Mr N’s duties involved working with steam turbines, heavy steel equipment, high pressure nitrogen/oxygen being released, large vehicles with caterpillar tracks, furnaces, rolling mills, process plate mills, rotating fans and electric ladle arcs.

This case involved agreeing a cut off date with the Defendants as hearing protection was provided later on in his employment, therefore his hearing was not damaged after that date. Mr N could not recall exactly when he was provided with hearing protection which is very common in claims of this nature. We were able to review records that we had obtained from British Steel ( now Corus) in order to find out this information and settle his claim without the need to issue court proceedings or for Mr N to attend court.
